The God Choice

two-roads2

Yes, that familiar fork in the road where you have to choose only one path.

The dilemma is never choosing between a good choice and a bad choice. Whenever faced with that question, we can easily pick one. The dilemma lies when you have to choose between two good options, two sound choices.

So, which one?

I make plans. That’s what I do. As a teacher, planning is a skill I have mastered so well I use it in every aspect of my life — including my relationship with Jesus. I had lofty dreams for Him; big plans of what I can accomplish for Him. Continue reading “The God Choice”

Staying

Staying4

“Yes, I am staying.”

After watching a video, I found myself uttering these very words to myself fully convinced that I am called to stay — in church.

I am not foreign to the cycle of excuses we often throw people or ourselves about leaving church. These excuses span from petty grievances on what carpet color to use or justified cries on the hypocrisy that exists in a group of imperfect people gathering together.

Leave at 8 in the morning.

Go left.

That was all Andreas, Cristo, and Anica knew when they stepped out of their guesthouse in Krabi town yesterday after praying where to go and leaving everything they own. I am fond of rain. I enjoy the sound of water hitting my rooftop. I feel particularly calm while watching heavy water pouring down my window, wind uncontrollably crashing on my outside walls. At times the invitation to go in and dance with it overcomes me, I succumb.

To me, a violent rainy scene is God saying that’s how I love you. I see His love like a storm taking over a place almost without warning and beyond anyone’s control. Riddled with passion and pursuing His children, His love is vehement. He is, surely, not Someone I would call safe. And yes, I love that about Him. Continue reading “When It Rains”

Time to Pause Martha

MarthaMary1

Yes, it is time to pause Martha.

We’ve all heard that sermon about Martha working so hard, distracted with much serving, and Mary who chose to sit at Jesus’ feet. Perhaps, at one point or two in our reading of the story in Luke, we rebelled at the verse where Jesus said Mary has chosen the good part not Martha. I know I did. Martha was doing everything she can to serve the Lord, while Mary was doing nothing but sat and listened to Jesus. How could Mary’s choice be the better one? Yet, Jesus did say Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her (Luke 10:42).

I struggled with that truth.
