Born of the Spirit: My Testimony
Darkness was what I mastered.
In its guile, I drifted.
On its terrains, I rested.
Its cheap sway, I fostered.
Bid others, “Come join me in its pursuits.”
But I was turned to rubble,
thrown into a hollow.
Life, then, was ceaseless sorrow,
trapped in constant struggle.
Agony endured; I could not break loose.
Then Your name, Jesus, I heard
from one whom You restored
words of awe for You, he poured
words of love unreserved.
Even so, for years, I resisted Your voice.
When, at last, I surrendered,
a decision I made.
“Yes,” I no longer delayed
what my soul for hankered.
The Spirit whispered, “You made the right choice.”
You unveiled my eyes to see,
unlocked my ears to hear.
Your Presence, ever so near;
I felt so strangely free.
You said, “You are now born of the Spirit.”
To a nigh river, I went
to follow Your command.
Lifted me up with Your hand;
I was utterly rent.
Raised to new life, not of my own merit.
I trust You, O Mighty God.
You, who are eternal,
whose aim is fate reversal
purchased with Your Son’s blood.
