Father, for my husband I pray
For his wife,
Father, give her Your heart for him.
May she wait silently for You alone, for her expectation is from You.
Let her love release him to You, not try to take control.
Strip her of endless expectations for him to perform,
instead for love, grace, and mercy to thrive in her home.
Rouse her early in the day to speak of him to You;
let the beauty of her heart radiate the time she spent with You.
For his relationship with You,
Father, consume all of him.
May he be a man who fears You, who is not wise in his own eyes,
who delights greatly in Your commandments.
Daily walk with You in discipline and victory;
daily seek Your heart and Your face.
May his life manifest Your passion for Your children;
may the beauty of his heart expose the fire of Your affection.
For his work,
Father, demonstrate Your power through him.
Breathe into his life the purpose You created him for;
render him Your courage to fulfill.
As things unfold before him, yield him understanding that he may obey,
a heart to carry out Your will, and hands ready to labor for You.
Let Your beauty be upon him, and establish the work of his hands for him;
yes, establish the work of his hands.
For his temptations,
Father, he is Your child;
encourage him to walk victoriously all the days of his life.
May he abhor what is evil, and cling to what is good.
Fortify his heart to run away from the enemy’s traps, to ascertain them
for the lies they accompany and for the empty promises they bear.
Reign in his life that he may look to You for escape.
Demolish destructive strongholds he is holding on to;
grant him boldness to break free, afford him Your strength where he is weak.
Father, for my husband I pray all these
in the sweet name of Jesus. Amen and amen.

Background:
Praying for my husband is something that I am not an expert of, but I am learning. To understand more about it, I am reading Stormie Omartian’s book, “The Power of a Praying Wife.” This prayer poem was inspired by this book and my desire to be better at lifting up my husband in prayer. I only touched 4 areas of my husband’s life in this prayer poem, but there are many more. Some of the words I used here were taken from scripture that God showed me while reading books and spending quiet times with Him.
Below is the list of scripture references in order of use:
Psalm 62: 5
Psalm 112:1 and Proverbs 3:7
Psalm 90:17
Romans 12:9
I recommend this book for all wives and wives to be. It’s helping me pray more effectively for my better half.
Oh my Kezia, This is really so precious. How much we need to be reminded of how much we need to cherish our husbands.
